Atlantic Immigration Program

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a federal immigration program that helps employers recruit skilled foreign workers and international graduates to meet labor needs. Atlantic Canada includes 4 provinces—New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland, and Labrador. The program helps employers hire qualified candidates for jobs they haven’t been able to fill locally.

Atlantic Canada Provinces

To immigrate to Atlantic Canada through AIP,

  1. you should be a fresh graduate of a publicly funded institution in Atlantic Canada or a skilled worker who meets the program requirements. OR
  2. You should be given a job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada.

Requirements for Candidate:

  • Language test should be:

CLB/NCLC 5 for NOC 0, A and B OR

CLB/NCLC 4 for NOC C

  • Educational credential assessment report, if the candidate studied outside Canada. You must have one of below:

If you have a job offer at the NOC 0 or A skill type or level, you must have a Canadian one-year post-secondary educational credential or higher, or the equivalent outside Canada. OR

If you have a job offer at the NOC B or C skill level, you must have a Canadian high school diploma, or the equivalent outside Canada.

  • Proof of work experience, not required if candidate studied from one of the Atlantic provinces.

This work should be in NOC  0, A, B, C and in the past 5 years the you must worked at least 1560 hours in a year if you are working 30 hours per week.

  • Proof of Fund, that they have enough money to support themselves and their family. If you’re already living and working in Canada with a valid work permit, you don’t need to show proof of funds.
  • Get Endorsed by designated employer and receive endorsement letter.
  • Submit application

Requirements for Employer:

The employer should be designated under one of the Atlantic provincial governments to make a job offer to hire a candidate.

Being “designated” means you can hire candidates under the Atlantic Immigration Program. The provinces are responsible for designating employers.

Each province has its own application process. You can find applications to become designated on the provinces’ websites:

After being designated the employer can make the job offer. The job offer requirements are:

  • full time
  • non-seasonal
  • at least 1 year in duration (1 year from the time the candidate becomes a permanent resident) if you’re offering a NOC 0, A, or B level job
  • a permanent position if you’re offering a NOC C level job
  • at the same skill level as, or higher than, the work experience that qualifies the candidate for the position (refer to the table below), unless they are an international student who has graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada
    • For certain healthcare sector occupations, you don’t need to have a job offer at the same skill level as, or higher than, the qualifying work experience.Work experience in NOC 3233 (practical nurses) and NOC 3012 (registered nurses) can be used as qualifying work experience if you have a job offer in NOC 3413 (nurse aides, orderlies,

Checklist For Atlantic Immigration Program to Apply for Permanent Residency

  1. Certificate of Endorsement
  2. Proof of Education
  3. Proof of funds (if not work permit holder)
  4. Offer of Employment to a Foreign National under the Atlantic Immigration Program also called IMM 0157. Your employer must fill out the form, print it and sign it by hand, and make a copy.
  5. Travel documents and passports
  6. Proof of Language Proficiency (IELTS)
  7. Proof of living in an Atlantic province for recent international graduates
  8. Proof of relevant work experience (reference letter of employment, t4, pay stubs, etc.)
  9. Proof of your current immigration document (Study or Work Permit)
  10. Birth certificates
  11. Spouse and Children’s Information (if applicable)
  12. Police Certificates and Clearances
  13. Photo for PR
  14. Proof of funds (not required if you are already working in Canada with a valid work permit)
